The Power of a Positive Mindset!
Hi Dear Readers
Negativity is a more central part of our lives than we may realize. Our lives really revolve around a mindset that is preparing for the worst. I personally interacted a lot with environments that thrived on negativity, dark humor and making jokes with dark topics. A way to cope I think.
NB: The things I’m going to mention is purely based on my own experience, and what I’ve used/practiced myself. Only take what resonates with you from this post and leave the rest. You are on your own journey, and only you know what the best for yourself is.
Mindset/ Focus = Attraction
This entire post can really be boiled down to one simple sentence “What you think, you attract”. This basically mean, the things you have your focus on you will get more of. If you look yourself in the mirror every morning and think you will never become anything, that you are ugly, that nobody likes you etc., then that will become your reality. You will never become anything, because you have already settled for status quo. Talking yourself down will only destroy your self confidence and feeling of self worth and thereby your potential.
When I went to therapy, one of the most essential things my therapist opened my eyes for was my negative mindset. I would only focus on the negatives, only see negative outcomes of scenarios, that the world was just inherently flawed. And my general notion of my life was negative, that became my reality. This is not to say that a mindset can be changed from one day to another. Just like with anything else, it takes practice and time to essentially switch one habit with another one.
I still fall into a black hole from time to time, where I literally can’t see a point with anything. Everybody can experience low points in their lives, and that i completely alright. What really is important here, is not bashing yourself for feeling the way you are feeling. Acknowledge that is how you are feeling in the moment, but that feeling will pass. Nothing is static in live, and feelings, thoughts, views, etc. will transform as well.
Just like with any other problem, the first step is to acknowledge the thing that is causing you trouble – in this case having a negative mindset which is hindering you in achieving your goals and dreams. And since you have clicked on this post, you may have a wish to change your way of thinking or at least some interest in the topic.
Start in the Small
In the following section I will give you a few pointers as to how to change your mindset to a more positive one.
Change Inner Dialog
This is of course easier said than done, as the vast majority of our inner dialog we are not aware of. But the point is that whenever you catch yourself in negative self-talk, stopping the unconstructive thoughts is a good place to start. Whenever I catch myself in speaking poorly to myself, I stop up and gently remind myself: “Ups, I will not speak to myself that way, I will instead say ….”, and then replace the negative though with a positive one. Clean Surroundings
This is literally anything from a clean/tidy workspace, doing the laundry weekly, do the dishes every evening, etc. I’ve found that I am shockingly less productive if my surrounding are dirty. If the dishes aren’t done, it’ll bother as long as they aren’t done. I personally like to make my bed every morning to start the day off on a positive note. In addition to that, I make sure that my workspace is tidy when I start in the morning.
The good thing about doing the cleaning before starting work is that you don’t need to think about it when you come home(or finish working if you work from home). Then you can just relax when you have time off. It’s just as important to be off when you are off, or else you can quickly burn out.
Supportive Base
With supportive base I mean finding some people, whether that is friends, family etc., somebody or something that makes you feel supported and secure. A safe space you feel is having your back
